Established over 35 years ago, Medbourne Pre-school aims to provide high quality childcare, working with parents and families to provide an informal, happy and safe environment in which children are encouraged to make friends, have fun and develop at their own pace, by learning through play.

Early Years Foundation Stage

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage framework with an emphasis on learning through play. It is a uniquely gentle and caring environment where children have free access to a range of activities including painting, playdough, small world play, craft, dressing up, role play, construction and a cosy book corner. The children are encouraged to try all activities, supported and guided by dedicated staff, who enjoy seeing the children grow in confidence and self-esteem.

We are passionate about outdoor learning and are very fortunate to have an extensive garden and outdoor play area for the children to enjoy. We encourage them to have outdoor adventures and learn about the natural world.

Special Days

Special occasions and times of year are an opportunity for the children to learn about different cultures, traditions and the world around them. Alongside regular singing and yoga sessions we also enjoy special guests and special event days such as:

  • Making dragons and tasting noodles for Chinese New Year

  • Spring visits to see the new lambs at a nearby farm

  • Garden Easter egg hunt

  • Sports day

  • Decorate Medbourne Church Christmas Tree

  • Christmas nativity performance

Communication

Our pre-school offers a 'key person' system. The role of the key person is to ensure that each child's individual needs are met, help settle the child into the pre-school and form close bonds and relations with their parents.

We value the importance of shared communication and feel that a continued working partnership approach between staff and parents is very important. We track each child’s development through their individual Learning Journey - a collection of observations, comments and examples of work collated during their time at Medbourne Pre-school. Parents can access and discuss their child’s Learning Journey at anytime.
